Solar Tours

Climb aboard the USS "Noble Dome" for a fun and informative journey through the solar system.  Explore seasonal changes and observe distinct differences in size, color, temperature and other surface features of our space neighbors.

Sun-Earth-Moon Connections
Grades: 3-8
45 minute program: 35 student maximum per program

Take a closer look at tour most important star, the sun.  Discover how the sun’s heat and light affects life on Earth. Then, take a look at our closest neighbor in space, the moon. Does the moon rotate? Why does the moon go through phases? Find out why we have seasons and observe how we see stars at different times of the year.  Locate the Big Dipper and pinpoint the North Star.  Learn how to use the Big Dipper for a seasonal clock.

Take Us to the Stars
Grades: K-12
45 minute program: 35 student maximum per program

Investigate sky movement beginning with an exact replica of today’s sky.  Watch as the sun seems to move across the sky.  What does the sun’s light block?  As night falls, observe the wonder of the constellations, asteroids, planets and moon phases.  Learn about the tools used in skywatching.  End your visit by learning more about shooting

Build A Telecope
Grades: 6-12
Cost:  $140 per telescope/ 10 telescope minimum

Gather 10 astronomy enthusiasts from your school or district and spend the day building a Dobsonian telescope that you will be able to use at the end of the day.  You will build a 4.5” Newtonian reflector telescope with your group.  All materials and tools are provided.  The only thing you will need to bring is your lunch!
