Museum School Class Assistant - Part time
The ideal Museum School Assistant is enthusiastic and enjoys assisting adults and working around children while always remaining in the background. Applicants must be age 16 or older to assist in the school-age class program. It is a job that is most appropriate for a junior/senior high school student or a college student who might be considering a career path in education, but not necessary.
All Museum School Class Assistant positions are part-time. A Museum School Class Assistant must commit to work at least 2-3 Saturdays during the fall and spring class sessions and at least two sessions during the summer months. Classes are offered on various Saturdays during the fall and spring and weekdays during the summer. Applicants who only want summer employment will not be considered. The work dates and hours will vary with each session and are scheduled on a flexible basis. This position is within the Museum’s Education Department and reports to the Director of Museum School Youth Programs.
Basic Functions and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
following directions from the supervisor as well as the classroom teacher
preparing materials before class for the day’s projects and activities
paying close attention to the teacher and be ready to assist where needed
remaining in the background in a assisting role
putting away supplies, cleaning materials and straightening the classroom after class
helping staff with other tasks when asked
enthusiastic and enjoys working around children, previous experience with children a plus
motivated, self-starter that looks for tasks that can be completed without being told
willingness to complete messy clean-up tasks such as washing brushes, wiping tables, etc.
eagerness to help out in many types of situations
has great attitude, and is reliable, punctual and dependable
