Part Time Employment

The role of the Part Time Sales Associate for the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is to assist in the operation and maintenance of the Shop Too! sales floor and Exhibit Gift Store in a way that achieves Show Quality Standards and exemplary customer service. This position represents an important component on the overall guest experience at the Museum because of its emphasis on customer service and that amount of interaction with Museum guests.

In a part time position, sales associates are typically scheduled 20 hours a week or less. The part-time positions available at this time are in support of the traveling exhibit and are subject to reevaluation after the exhibit has ended.

Basic Function and Responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Selling merchandise to customers. This includes: accepting cash, credit, check or gift cards as method of payment; entering item number and quantity into Counterpoint; correctly applying any discounts; and appropriately bagging purchases.

  • Activating, closing, and posting a register. Each associate is directly accountable for the amount of cash in their drawer and for the amount of credit received.

  • Issuing gift cards, following the correct procedure within Counterpoint and on the credit card machines.

  • Being able to answer a customer’s questions about merchandise, and, when necessary, direct them to the correct location in the store. (This will require the associate to constantly maintain familiarity with the sales floor as new product comes in, product sells out, and the store is rearranged to accommodate both.)

  • Tagging new merchandise as it comes in and assisting in its placement on the sales floor.

  • Cleaning and straightening the store. This is secondary to providing customer service, but maintaining the sales floor is essential to our ability to provide customer satisfaction. This will include: dusting shelves and product; returning product to its correct location on the sales floor; and refolding t-shirts

  • Answering phone calls, as well as calling security or other departments as needed.

  • Cross train in other areas as needed

Qualifications:

  • Passion for working with all ages in a retail setting with a friendly but professional demeanor

  • Possession of sales ability and helpful motivation

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays

  • Ability to learn computer POS system

  • Ability to bend and squat and lift up to 40 pounds

  • Basic math skills

  • Computer proficient and Internet savvy

  • Be able to man/monitor the sales floor up to four hours at a time

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
