School Services Outreach Facilitator
Primary Functions and Responsibilities:
The Museum supports two outreach programs and is seeking staff to be available to work in either or both programs.
The Discovery Labs on Wheels Facilitator’s role is to support implementation of school-based programs at school sites and organize materials and resources associated with the program. This person must have excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, superior communication skills, ability to work well with children and be an effective problem solver. This person must work well in a team atmosphere.
The Family Science Festival Facilitator’s role is to support implementation of the festival programs at school sites on scheduled evenings and special requests throughout the year. This person must have excellent interpersonal skills, superior communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work well with adults and children, effective problem solving skills and the ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
Essential job functions:
The primary responsibilities of this staff person is to implement School Services Outreach programs at school sites (during the day through Discovery Lab on Wheels and/or in the evening for Family Science Festivals) and organize materials and resources associated with the program.
Discovery Labs on Wheels Facilitator
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Attending weekly staff meetings
- Manage and organize materials and resources needed for programming
- Inventory materials and report replenishment needs
- Attending professional development opportunities
- Testing of new programming with staff
- Refinement of museum programming
- Communication with teachers prior to program
- Implementation of Discovery Lab on Wheels programming including:
~ Loading and unloading of materials at Museum and schools
~ Transportation to and from school
~ Check in with school office upon arrival
~ Set up in classroom or lab
~ Facilitate student learning during session
~ Interact with classroom teacher
~ Communicate educational connections and websites pertinent to program
~ Communicate museum resources with teachers and administrators
~ Complete programming reports
- Physical Demands: Job duties regularly require the ability to stand for extended periods of time and be able to carry up to 25 pounds
Family Science Festival Facilitator
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Preparing materials for events
- Loading and unloading of materials at schools
- Transportation to and from school
- Check in with school office upon arrival
- Set up components at school site
- Facilitate student learning during session
- Interact with classroom teachers, parents and children
- Communicate educational connections and websites pertinent to program
- Communicate museum resources with teachers and administrators
- Complete programming reports
- Physical Demands: Job duties regularly require the ability to stand for extended periods of time and be able to carry up to 25 pounds
Hours: Monday 9:00-12:00; Scheduled outreach programs during school days (10-12 hours weekly); Family Science Festivals from 4:00-8:30 selected Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (10-12 hours weekly)
